PostSubject: test data for Cunningham c327 tubes on heathkit tc-2   Fri Oct 15, 2010 6:28 pm

Does anyone have this information?

The 227 327 and 427 are listed as equivelants to a 27. I have data for the 27 and for a 427 and they seem to differ so I am wondering if the 327 is also diff.

The 2 prefix was RCA, 3 prefix was Cunningham, same tube. In the early thirties they dropped all the prefixes. So a 227 is a 327 is a 27, same scheme for all large-pin 3- digit tubes. First digit was the manufacturer.

Sparton used some 4xx numbers for some of their oddball tubes so watch out for that. I can't think of an oddball 427 number, though. For 27=227=327 I think you'll be ok.

Bummer I was hoping they might have a slight difference. I tested the 327's with the values for a 27 under the assumption that if they were an equivelent that should be the case. Every 327 tested bad, the one actual 27 tested out fine.

Old globe tubes would not throw away. Also check to see if you have 2.5 volts at the filament pins when in the tester. Som of those old 27's take a LONG time to warm up.

If any of the tubes test dead, try resoldering the pins. Sometimes they corrode and come loose, or weren't soldered well in the beginning. Sometimes cooking a tube for a while can help. There is a procedure to go through for directly heated cathode (filament type) tubes to increase their emission.

Reese,

Do you have any links to info on "cooking" those tubes? I tried a few google searches and came up empty.

Happy rejuvenation! Worth a try if the filaments are intact.
