PostSubject: Need my TV buddies   Sat Oct 16, 2010 1:39 pm

How do I connect with the TV forum guys while ARF is in temp mode?

I just bought 4 antique TV's and need help with locating schematics, tips on some electronic issues, TV Rider lookups, etc.

I really miss the TV forum

Thanks,
Joe

PS Had to register on the temp forum using my wife's email address and user name because I couldn't register as me (using the original ARF profile) for some reason. Are others having trouble too?

What TVs did you get? bounce

I have schematics for some RCAs and a couple of Motorolas.

I think a lot of the TV guys spend time at Bill Cahill's forum. I don't have a link though.

Here's what I bought:

RCA 8TS30
Dumont RA-103 (doghouse style)
Predicta 10L43 (I think it is the 17 inch, "Princess" with Black Chasis but not sure, H3412L?)
Motorola 7VT5A (has a burnt up ballast tube, and can't find the number to replace it (glass envelope is missing).

Is there a way to cross reference TV model numbers with Rider TV Manual Numbers?

I wonder if there is an online version of the TV Riders?

May have to resort to SAMs if I can find them.

Cheers,
Joe

Look over on VideoKarma. Those guys are helpful and have lots of schematics, etc.

Sorry, my little collection doesn't cover any of those. study

That's a pretty good group though. You must have hit a good collector's estate auction. cheers

If you're familiar with this TV forum, you'll recognize various names. Some people (including me) frequent both forums.

The Early Television Foundation has schematics posted for all those models:

By the way, that's a nice selection of TVs. I'm especially partial to the RA-103, but they're all well worth the effort.

If you browse the restoration section of my site, you'll find articles about my RA-103, a similar Predicta, and an RCA 630TS, which is a close precursor to your 8TS30.

Enjoy!

On the Predicta check the 5 ohm resistor in series with the LV rectifier, bring it up slow in the variac. If you get sound but NP , suspect a bad spot in the width control.

At this point you most likely will have vertical issues and neeed to change caps.
