I remember deciding between that and the Space Spanner, I got the Space Spanner, I thought at the time it was better because I didn't have to change coils.

Sunday AM they're up to $568! There's a lot of nostalgia floating around there.

I built an Ocean Hopper back in 1950 from a schematic in the Allied Radio Builder's Handbook. It had a 70L7 as Rectifier and Audio Output and I THINK a 12SJ7 Regenerative Detector. I wound my own coils.

This is apparently a later model using miniature tubes.

It was a great performing little set but I don't think I had more than $10 invested in mine.

That's Ebay for you.

Regards,

Lee, W6UN

That's just crazy! Guess I got lucky buying a working Space Spanner for $150.00 shipped that just needed a recap and a cold solder repair!-Gearhead

Anybody compared the Ocean hopper vs. the Space Spanner? I would imagine better bandspread on the hopper, everything widely spaced. In fact, probably a lot better than the Spanner?

I have 3 spanners, never a hopper.

Thanks, I didn't think we would be here very long, so figured it didn't matter. Laughing Will do that, how are things in naptown, I haven't been there since I was in the Job Corp, around 1970.

interesting that they get that much for the newer version. Yesterday I posted about an unknown Allied radio, which turns out to be the octal tube version. That should be worth $1000 since the mini tube one is almost $600! Right? Shocked
