PostSubject: Firestone Air Chief S-7404-6 console   Wed Oct 20, 2010 12:51 pm

I picked up this Firestone console at a flea market today. It's a model S-7404-6. I'm looking for any info on this model. Also looking for a readable schematic.

An interesting feature on this radio is the antenna can be remotely rotated from the center knob on the top panel.

I also got the original back panel for the radio (not pictured).

Larry,
Did you find this schematic on Nostalgia Air:

Thanks Carl. Yes, I have that schematic but some of it is difficult to read. I'm hoping someone may have a source for a larger, better, copy.

From the looks of the schematic, the original manufacturer was Stewart-Warner.

From the lack of info on the Internet I'm guessing these are somewhat difficult to find? Except for the standard adv pic on airchief.com and radiomuseum there isn't a single photo to be found. I was surprised to find it in such complete, unmolested condition, even including the original back. It powers up (not by me, the seller) but only has a loud hum which, in a way, is a good sign.

I'm gonna yank the chassis and recap it. The only thing that has me concerned is the remote control antenna. It's a cable from the center knob on the chassis that goes down to a gear on the antenna and I'm not sure what it takes to disconnect it without damaging it. I don't suppose anyone here has had experience with one of these?

You can see how clean the chassis is.

How'd I do for $5?

I have an antenna like that here, and it looks like there is a clip, then a nut, and then a star washer. Seems like that will let it release from it's mounting.

of what it should look like..

Please feel free to upload a picture to airchiefradios.com -- there's a link called "Photo Gallery", and you can upload that way.

It's 32"w x 20"h

The slots are 1/2" x 3" (including the radius at each end).
The first slot on each end of each row is 4 1/2" in from the side edge.
The top row is 1 1/2" from the top edge.
The bottom row is 3" from the bottom edge.
There is 5/8" between the slots.

The material is 1/8" fiberboard.
