PostSubject: Stromberg- Carlson model 1500-paint question   Wed Oct 13, 2010 10:09 pm

This was my day-
Re-capping this nice Stromberg-carlson.

Someone had already replaced the volume control, and I decided not to mess with the rectifier. The set worked, but had a buzz, and as you can see, really old wax caps.
Happy to say, it works and sounds great-
BUT
It was originally painted white. By the time I got it most of the paint had been removed. However they were too lazy to get in between the grooves. I've tried alcohol. acetone, and lighter fluid, but so far the only thing that works is a wooden scraper I made out of a tongue depressor. That is going to take forever.
SO- Anybody have a way to remove paint from bakelite without destroying the finish?
Thanks,
Terry

GoofOff I believe is what you want. Test on an inconspicuous area.
